Emmy is ONE! Her birthday was on May 30th and we had a little family party the weekend before to celebrate the big day. Although the first few months after she was born were extremely challenging and felt like an eternity at the time (in case you missed it, you can read about that here), I look back now and can’t believe that was a full year ago. I feel like I blinked and all the sudden I have a one-year-old. I guess that’s how it goes, right?

I know a lot of people make a big deal of first birthdays and have huge parties with lots of guests, Pinterest-worthy decor, and a multi-tiered cake, but the thought of that seriously stressed me out. We opted to do something very low-key and simple, with a small group of just family. And it was perfect.

Since the party was relaxed, I actually had a chance to take pictures! Usually during events like this I’m running around like a chicken without a head and I wind up with zero pictures. This time I had the opportunity to get some really great shots, and I’m so glad. These are my favorites.
